While sisters Deborah Gladney and Angela Muhwezi-Hall were funding and getting their new app, Quickhire, off the ground, they were met with doubt and discrimination.
But they didn’t give up – and were eventually able to do something remarkable.
They became the first Black women in their State, and one of VERY few Black women-led teams in the country, to raise over $1 million for their startup.
That could be because Quickhire attempts to creatively solve a pressing problem our community continues to face.
Black people consistently have trouble accessing high paying jobs with good benefits, even if they’re qualified for them – and this is exactly what QuickHire is designed to address.
Our economic system makes it difficult for us to access resources that would make our lives easier – such as better wages to escape living paycheck to paycheck and health insurance that allows us to take care of ourselves. They hope to change that.
Gladney and Muhwezi-Hall are a perfect example of Black entrepreneurs finding a perfect balance between pursuing their business – AND prioritizing the needs of our community!
