NBA baller Steph Curry has supported former President Barack Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBKA) since day one.
The program began as a way to help build safe and supportive communities for Black boys and young men.
Using his celebrity to bring awareness to this critical work, Curry helped raise $53,000 for the alliance back in 2019, including $28,000 from a pair of custom autographed Under Armour shoes worn during a game.
Curry shared that “the inspiration for the shoe… is every boy and young [man] of color in this country that need[s] to know they matter – to their communities, their country, to me.”
Despite today’s uncertain times, Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative is still guided by a mission that uplifts the future leaders of tomorrow – as was evidenced by Obama’s encouraging words on a call with program participants.
“I hope the young people … don’t feel discouraged,” the former President shared on the call, “but embrace the challenge that you’re going to be facing. And know that you’re going to have a lot of people around you who are not just rooting for you but are also willing to put in the resources to help you achieve your goals.”
Both President Obama and Curry want to “reduce barriers and expand opportunity so nothing stands in the way of everyone achieving their biggest dreams.” Keep making us proud, Steph.
