Many of us live with regrets, but MC Hammer would never go back and change how he spent money, even when he filed for bankruptcy in 1996.
One of the biggest reasons the star music artist doesn’t regret his financial decisions is because he employed many people from his community. And while he may have hired an unsustainable number of people, it helped change those people’s lives.
"I didn't just take the money and say, 'I want to be a blessing to myself.' I took my money and employed 200 people in my community. I had a payroll of a million dollars a month at times." Hammer was loyal to his Oakland community, and they were loyal to him, as he’s notorious for being heavily protected and loved.
While Hammer did go bankrupt, he’s now more financially literate than ever. He’s well known in silicon valley for being a serial investor, while still giving back to his community through charity. But regardless of how many tech companies he’s invested in, his most important investment was in his people.
MC Hammer may have overwhelmed himself with the amount of people he employed, but he lives with no regrets. It shows that helping our community is more impactful when we share our abundance with others.
