AI is being used across many industries to optimize workflows and operations. However, the true threat of AI comes in its power to automate many job functions  and it could harm the livelihood of Black workers the most.

Reports state that more than 4.5 million Black Americans will have their jobs impacted by AI by 2030, and that Black men without a college degree are at the greatest risk of losing their jobs to AI.

While many believe AI will only lead to more discrimination – and are calling on the Biden administration to address this – others believe it can help make the job hiring process more equitable and fair.

Still, it’s clear that Black workers will be hit harder than other groups by automation and AI, and significantly impact jobs in fast-food, retail and customer service.

While AI can bring about a host of benefits that could help run and grow small businesses, the threat it poses to Black workers must not be ignored.
