Tired of the 9 to 5, Terence Jackson wanted to create his own lane – literally. He dreamed of building a mobile bowling alley, but it would cost $300,000! People called him crazy for how he got the money.
Jackson sold his assets, including the condo he lived in, believing he had to “bet on himself.” He converted a 53-foot semi-truck trailer into a bowling alley with an automatic ball return, pin-resetters, digital scorekeepers, a seating area, and two lanes.
But he finished JUST as COVID-19 broke out.
Countless small businesses closed during COVID, but Jackson’s wasn’t one of them! He launched Luxury Strike Bowling on Juneteenth 2020 – and overnight it was booked months in advance.
People were itching to find fun, safe activities to get them out of the house.
Rental fees for the alley ranged from $500-$1,000, and it was booked roughly 25 times a week! Jackson walked away with $10,000 in weekly sales.
Jackson’s business thrived throughout COVID, and he’s currently converting a second trailer to keep building. He also has a bigger vision for our communities.
“If you want more Black bosses, we have to have more Black businesses,” he stated. “For us to move forward and be a more powerful people … we have to become bosses instead of consumers.”
So what are you waiting for? Bet on yourself!
