Goal #1: READ
Read a personal finance book by a Black author, such as Money Talks by financial literacy experts Talaat and Tai McNeely. Knowledge is POWER. Set a goal to learn more about a specific topic and turn the page on poor money habits born out of ignorance.
And speaking of research…
Goal #2: RESEARCH & DONATE
Research, then give to a Black-led philanthropic organization like PushBlack Finance. Supporting organizations that do the important work of uplifting a different narrative – that Black people can excel financially with the right tools – is an achievement to be proud of. PLUS, you can write it off on your taxes!
And while we’re on the topic of achievement…
Goal #3 LIST OUT YOUR WINS
Look back on the year and celebrate the goals and good habits you’ve already achieved. Did you go the entire year without overdrafting your account? Did your credit score rise? Were you able to support a family member in need? Take inventory of your personal victories and celebrate before 2020 ends.
Goal #4 VOTE
Always exercise your right to vote with your ballot! Support local and national candidates whose political priorities align with your vision for Black liberation. Political decisions DEFINITELY impact your wallet – healthcare, taxes, school funding, criminal justice, and more.
Don’t let public servants run the show without your input!
