If you’re like most of us, auto expenses are one of the largest items on your monthly budget. But you can save money with these simple tips.

#1: Buy Smart

If you’re buying a car, consider pre-owned. Get a smaller, less-flashy car with better gas mileage. And plan to keep it for a while – cars lose the most value RIGHT after you buy them! The longer you keep a car, the more value you get out of it. Speaking of keeping a car for a while ...

#2: Regular Maintenance

Make sure to change your oil, air filters, and tires regularly, and get your car tuned up at least once a year. It might seem like an unnecessary expense, but keeping your car in good shape will prevent expensive major fixes down the line!

#3 Check Tire Pressure

Speaking of tires, making sure yours are pumped up increases your gas mileage by a LOT and lengthens the life of the tires. That could save you hundreds a year on gas and tire replacements.

#4 Save Gas

Driving sensibly – going moderate speeds and changing lanes infrequently, for example – saves you on gas AND tickets. But driving LESS will save you more! Can you carpool, ride a bike, or take a walk for short trips?
