Food insecurity has been a topic of discussion for decades, but we’ve made little progress with this problem. That is, until this Black woman decided to do something major.

Sara Menker, a former Wall Street trader, recently designed an artificial intelligence program to predict global food trends and fight food insecurity.

The program uses data sources to monitor important agriculture trends, like whether the price of certain foods are increasing and how climate change determines if land is built for growing crops.

Menker knows what hard times look like. She grew up in Ethiopia in the 1980s, when poverty and famine were devastating the land.

She moved to New York for college and a chance at a better life. After working in finance, she became intrigued by the agriculture system and its lack of protection for Black people.

Before making her program, Menker noticed the lack of progress toward really addressing food insecurity. In order to actually help the most vulnerable people, she had to innovate because old solutions were NOT working.

Using her own experience and channeling her passion, Menker was able to do what we all should aspire to do – find our own way to help our people.

This program has the potential to make astronomical advances in helping tackle Black poverty and food insecurity – kudos to this innovative Black entrepreneur!
