Walmart has been ordered to pay close to $4 million to customers targeted in a gift card scam between 2016 and 2017.

According to the Department of Justice, scammers began defrauding Walmart customers in 2015 by asking them to purchase and send them gift cards worth between $500 and $1000. When Walmart learned of the fraud, they froze all gift cards in an effort to thwart the thieves.

Now the Department of Justice says that Walmart must repay scammed customers the amount of money they loaded onto gift cards. Affected customers cannot receive any money they have already gotten back from other banks but still qualify for some compensation. How can you find out if you qualify?

f you purchased a card between April 1, 2016, and July 31, 2017, you can visit http://www.walmartgiftcardremission.com/ for more information and directions on how to file for compensation. The deadline to apply is July 14, 2023.

Be sure to follow all the directions completely for your settlement. If you are impacted, it’s important to take proper financial protection measures and reclaim what is rightfully yours.
