Money is TIGHT for most of us in 2020 – but the holidays are coming up fast! Here are some emergency saving and budgeting tips you can try to make sure you don’t have to cancel Christmas.
#1: Temporarily Cancel Streaming
Temporarily cancel Netflix, HBO, or other streaming services to save money. You can always re-subscribe after the holidays! And remember: your local library has tons of FREE books, movies, and video games.
#2: No Delivery
It’s tempting to get groceries, food, and other items delivered to our homes because of the pandemic. But it’s EXPENSIVE! Cutting out delivery can save a lot. Save a surprising amount by cooking ALL of your meals at home – no restaurants! – for one month.
#3: Save On Utilities
Did you know clothes washers clean just as well with COLD water? And it’s cheaper! Also, have everyone in the family take short showers, unplug electronics when they’re not being used (yes, they use electricity even when they’re off!), and wear sweaters/blankets when it’s cold instead of cranking up the heat.
#4: Curb Your Vices
Now is the perfect time to quit smoking and/or cut down on drinking. Both are VERY expensive, and quitting is better for your wallet AND your health! If you can’t quit yet, at least see if you can cut down.
#5: Alter Your Expectations
Christmas and Thanksgiving 2020 are going to look much different than previous years. There’s nothing wrong with scaling back and having small, inexpensive holiday celebrations this year!
