Demanding better wages and working conditions isn’t just happening in the United States. Haitian workers are tired of constant manual labor and not having much to show for it at the end of the day.

But their cries are not only falling on deaf ears – they’re being brutalized for speaking out!

Many Haitian factory workers make a paltry $5 for an entire 9-hour workday! They’re seeking at least $15 a day, as rising prices have made many workers’ wages unlivable.

But there’s an even more serious issue.

While prices have gotten out of control globally, these wages weren’t even livable before

And while protesters demand fair wages for their work, police officers release tear gas on them, day after day, in an effort to kill their spirits and inflict harm!

American protesters are often targeted by police as well. But as workers’ rights become a more mainstream discussion, some progress has been made.

Amazon’s recent labor deal happened because of pressure from workers and social media. American workers have some protection from violence and retaliation, but Haitian workers don’t always have this freedom.

Black people are exploited globally by our economic system.

Haitian workers, like American ones, aren’t being paid fairly and when they demand better, they’re punished. Everyone should have the right to speak out against economic exploitation!
